What to expect

Starting counselling can feel scary. My aim is to offer a space that feels safe, collaborative, and respectful from the very beginning

Your first session

The first session is an opportunity to get a sense of how it feels to be together in the room. We will talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you hope for, but you are always in control of what you choose to share. There is not pressure to disclose painful or personal experiences.

We will look at practicalities and boundaries so you know what to expect and can make informed choices about continuing.

Ongoing sessions

Counselling at The Rose Room is:

  • Client-Led - You chose what feels important
  • Pace-led by you - we go slowly or quickly as feels right
  • Trauma-informed - safety, choice and consent come first
  • Neurodiversity-affirming - difference is respected, not corrected
  • Confidential and supportive

Some sessions may feel reflective and grounding; others may bring strong emotions. We work with whatever is present, always checking in with what feels manageable for you

There is no 'right way' to do counselling

You do not need to know what to say or how to say it.

Silence, uncertainty, emotion and taking things slowly are all welcome here. Counselling is not about fixing or changing who you are - its about understanding yourself with compassion and kindness.

Ending counselling

Endings are always your choice. whether counselling is short-term or longer-term, we approach endings with care, allowing time to reflect and close the work in a way that feels right for you
